Quebec’s police watchdog, the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI), announced on March 11 that the woman found unconscious in police custody in Campbell’s Bay on March 1 has died. According to the initial information provided to the BEI, the woman was in an interrogation room at the police station when she was found unconscious and subsequently transported to hospital, where her condition was considered serious.
The statement adds that they will not be releasing any other information at this time, as their investigation is ongoing. The Montreal Police will be conducting a parallel criminal investigation.
The BEI investigates any time someone is dies or is seriously injured by police officers, or suffers injuries while in police custody.
