Second annual Maurice Beauregard tournament a success

Second annual Maurice Beauregard tournament a success

27 May 2024 à 3:31 pm

The second annual Maurice Beauregard Memorial 3-pitch tournament took place this past weekend (May 24 to 26) in Campbell’s Bay at the park named in the late mayor’s honour.

Beauregard’s widow Kelly McMahon said that they had a great turnout with 14 teams across two divisions, with dozens of volunteers helping out to keep the weekend running smoothly.

Speaking to CHIP 101.9 prior to the event, she explained why a ball tournament was the best way to celebrate Maurice’s legacy in the community.

She said that it was too early to calculate the funds raised over the weekend, but estimated that they had brought in as much as the previous year. The funds go towards three bursaries for local high school students, with the remainder invested in infrastructure at the park.

This year’s event also featured an exhibition fastpitch match between the Junior and Senior Campbell’s Bay Royals, pitting two generations of local ball players against each other. In the end, the younger generation prevailed over their elders.

Winners in the Open division were Kruger and The Corriveaus won the Rec Division. The horseshoe tournament was won by James Ostrom and Chris Sauriol.
