Warden reiterates call for bringing the Municipality of Pontiac into MRC Pontiac

15 February 2023 à 11:55 am

During the first meeting of the MRC Pontiac Youth Council on February 13, Warden Jane Toller noted that the group included students from municipalities all over the Pontiac, as well as one from the Municipality of Pontiac, which is situated in MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais. She reiterated her support for adding the municipality to the MRC of the same name.

“One of our students that came forward when I went to Pontiac High School was Oscar Munn-Venn and he lives in Luskville, but he goes to school in Shawville and has a part-time job there. And he asked if he could be on our council and I thought about it. I know that Roger Larose, who is the mayor of the Municipality of Pontiac, and their council voted unanimously to leave MRC des Collines and join MRC Pontiac. And we have discussed this at our council of mayors at our MRC and we are also in favour of this. It would actually increase our population by 6,000 people. And most people tell me, in Quyon and Luskville, that they feel that we have more in common as two communities and they feel that they would be well-taking care of and I can assure them, they would be.”
– Jane Toller, Warden of MRC Pontiac

This isn’t the first time that Toller has expressed an interest in bringing the Municipality of Pontiac into the MRC Pontiac. The idea had been discussed by candidates for the mayor’s seat in the Municipality of Pontiac in the 2021 elections. At the time CHIP reported on the case of the Municipality of Notre-Dame-de-la-Salette, which left the MRC des Collines recently for MRC Papineau.
