The Syndicat de la fonction publique et parapublique du Québec (SFPQ) for the Outaouais-Laurentides-Lanaudière region has denounced the government for preparing to award a contract to a bidder for snow removal, de-icing and the supply of materials for Hwy. 148 for the continuation of a public contract which will cost 400% more than the current contract

“The reason given is the lack of personnel and equipment. This contract worth $1,298,000 which could have cost around $300,000 is outrageous! The SFPQ constantly reminds the Ministry of Transport of the importance of increasing the salaries of workers to make this ministry attractive and also of buying back equipment to bring contracts in-house. Which obviously costs less to Quebec taxpayers and the work is done more meticulously. We have attached the details for you from the official gazette of Quebec ,” declared the SFPQ’s Michel Girard (tr.).

According to what was published on March 2 in the Quebec Gazette, the portion of Hwy. 148 affected by this contract would include Blvd. des Allumetières to Egan Road.

The full (French-language) interview with Girard is available here.
