The MP for the Pontiac, William Amos announced contributions totaling more than $ 760,000 to four cross-country ski, snowmobile and quad clubs in his riding. The Government of Canada is supporting the maintenance of cross-country ski, snowmobile and quad trails in the Outaouais region to attract winter activity enthusiasts from here and elsewhere for years to come.

Pontiac MP William Amos announced that the Club Moto-Neige Pengouins ($ 196,055), Club Quad du Pontiac ($ 177,677), as well as Les Ours blancs (Maniwaki) and the Association de cross-country skiing Nakkertok (Cantley and Val-des-Monts), will receive more than $ 760,000 from Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED) to acquire modern and quality maintenance equipment in order to improve and prepare their paths for post-COVID-19 recovery.

“I am delighted that at these crucial times, the Government of Canada is supporting businesses and organizations in the tourism industry in the Outaouais, particularly in our rural areas. Whether it is to support cross-country skiing, snowmobiling or quad biking, these activities represent popular channels for both international tourists and local tourists! And let’s not forget that the followers of these winter activities are all, in their own way, ambassadors of our beautiful region, ”commented William Amos, who is also Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology. of Industry (Science).

This financial support comes from the Winter Tourism Initiative, which is intended to increase the practice of winter sports and activities on trails and the resulting economic benefits. In the Pontiac MRC, the Club Moto-Neige Pengouins in Mansfield-et-Pontefract will be able to purchase a resurfacer thanks to a non-refundable contribution from DEC of $ 196,055. This club, which has more than 400 members, is responsible for the maintenance of 540 km of snowmobile trails and is supported by four employees and 30 volunteers who operate four groomers. Also, the Club Quad du Pontiac, which is based in Litchfield, will be able to count on a non-refundable support of $ 177,677 from DEC. This will allow the purchase of a new groomer to maintain the 365 kilometers of trails under their responsibility. This club can count on 491 members, four employees and 12 volunteers who currently operate two sets of trail maintenance.
