In a press release, the Centre intégré de santé et des services sociaux (CISSS) de l’Outaouais announced the signing of two affiliation contracts with McGill University and the University of Quebec in Outaouais (UQO). Affiliation with these two major higher education institutions aims to promote research activities as well as the development of teaching culture in different clinical settings.

In addition to giving the region and the CISSS de l’Outaouais greater visibility, these affiliations will contribute to the development of a university academic culture in the Outaouais. The Deputy President and Chief Executive Officer, Ms. France Dumont, mentions “that affiliation to these two large institutions reflects our ambition to become an integrated university health and social services center (CIUSSS). This is another step allowing synergy between our institutions and which will contribute in particular to the development of the workforce in our region and thus, will strengthen the offer of care and services to our population “.

In August 2020, the Outaouais welcomed the first cohort of students who will complete their undergraduate medical studies at the new McGill University campus in Gatineau. McGill’s Outaouais Campus will host a total of 96 students in this four-year program. In addition, this year, 16 students entered the McGill medical preparatory program as part of a joint McGill-UQO initiative. Taking into account the McGill residency programs already offered within the CISSS de l’Outaouais, students can now receive comprehensive training in the region.
