SQ issues report on their construction holiday road operations
The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) have issued their report on their road operations that took place on their territory during this year’s construction holidays, from July 16 to August 1.
In total they issued 19,983 tickets for violating the Highway Traffic Code during this period, with 11,854 of those being speeding infractions. Officers conducted 1,168 traffic stops to screen for impaired driving. Of the 405 motorists that submitted to a screening device or an impairment test, 313 were arrested for driving under the influence.
This year, 532 collisions causing bodily harm were recorded, compared to 510 the previous year. Unfortunately, 11 people died in 11 different collisions, up from 9 deaths in 9 different collisions the previous year. The SQ stated that speed, distraction and impaired driving were the three primary causes of collisions.
