The news regarding the spring freshet in Mansfield is encouraging, in particular on the Coulonge River. According to the Municipality of Mansfield, the company Evolugen does not foresee a significant increase in the coming days. Mayor Sandra Armstrong said the news is encouraging for the Coulonge River, but people are still being asked to keep their sandbags in place and be vigilant. There are still some uncertainties, especially on the side of the Ottawa River.

“We have a respite, don’t we? So we’re still under watch, but at this point the readings are better than say, mid-last week,” she said (translated). “So yes, it is very interesting … So we have no flooded roads that pass near the Coulonge River. Water flows and levels have been falling for a few days, but Evolugen, being that we take information from Evolugen, do not expect a significant increase in the coming days.”

The Ottawa River is stable but some roads, such as chemin Thomas Lefebvre, are closed to traffic at civic number 167. Armstrong asked residents to be extremely vigilant as the roads could be very dangerous for vehicles.

“Yes, very very dangerous, especially Thomas-Lefebvre, [rue] Léonard, people should not go there,” she said (translated). “I think there is a resident on this road, then the rest are cottages. But do not go for a walk on these roads either. We are afraid and we often repeat, chemin Thomas Lefebvre , there is erosion caused by beavers and we do not know the situation below, what is happening there, for the moment. As you say, there is still too much water in these marshes.”

The municipality will no longer be giving day-to-day updates unless the situation changes drastically.
