Some details of the agreement in principal between Front Commun and government made public

8 January 2024 à 10:35 am

After 11 days of strikes and weeks of intensive negotiations, the Front Commun, a coalition of Quebec public service unions has published some details of the proposed agreement in principle which will be submitted to members during the tour of general assemblies taking place from mid-January until February. On its website, the Front Commun invites its members to read the agreement in principle which affects the main sectors of the Quebec public service (health and education). Details of the agreement in principle are available here.

The collective agreement runs for 5 years, from last year April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2028. According to the Front Commun, a 17.4% wage increase over 5 years was negotiated for all workers of all sectors, to which is added purchasing power protection of up to 1% for each of the last three years of the collective agreement (up to 3% in total).

“Remember that all the government’s offers were for a period of 5 years. They were 9% in December 2022, then 10.3% in October 2023 and 12.7% on December 6, 2023. In the final negotiation blitz, we managed to get a jump of more than 4%, making thus passing the last offer to 17.4%,” the post on the website notes.

Here are the details of the increases, made public by the Front Commun:

“A 6% increase is anticipated in the first year of the agreement. This is the largest annual increase in decades. If the agreement is accepted, the 6% increase will be retroactive to April 1, 2023. Thus, on April 1, 2024, the salary will be increased by 8.8% (6% + 2.8%) for everyone.”

Examples, according to the Front Commun, of retroactive pay to April 1, 2024 (6%).
