Requested speed reduction on Hwy. 148 in Waltham revised
At the MRC Pontiac council of mayors meeting last Wednesday (June 21), Fire and Public Safety coordinator Julien Gagnon presented a revised resolution to be sent to the Ministry of Transport, asking for a speed reduction on a section of Hwy. 148 in Waltham. At the last MRC council meeting in May, the mayors sent a request to the MTQ asking that the speed be reduced to 70 km/h from 90 km/h, and the new request was instead for 60 km/h.
Gagnon explained that a near miss on that section of highway had prompted Waltham’s council to send a revised request to the MTQ, and the MRC council was just adjusting their request to match Waltham’s.
He added that the MTQ has denied previous requests for a speed reduction in that zone.
“It remains to be seen if they even will entertain this one,” he said.
