The snowmobile drag races in Fort-Coulonge recently held their 25th edition on March 4, and were a great success according to the organizers. CHIP 101.9 spoke in-studio with organizer Pierre Laporte as well as Mansfield/Fort-Coulonge leisure coordinator Guillaume Lavoie-Harvey.  Laporte said that this edition brought out their highest number of racers, as well as about 700 spectators.

“We has around 100 racers who participated in an average of four races each,” he said (translated). “So, a great success, a great success, very satisfied. The municipalities of Fort-Coulonge and Mansfield supported me a lot, the arena committee and all the other people who helped me that day, a big thank you to all. Then the spectators, with the boys, and with the workers and all in all, about, you see it was over 700 people.”

The profits will be donated to the Centre de loisirs des Draveurs Century 21 Élite. During the interview, Lavoie-Harvey indicated that the arena committee wishes to completely rebuild a new building.

“There is a preparation on the part of the committee at the moment to completely redo the arena,” he said (translated) “(François Carrier: Redo the entire arena? Explain to us.) Well, we hope, well, the Centre de loisirs committee, in any case, hopes, in the next three to four years, to be able to redo an arena new. So, this is one of the missions they have given themselves. And, events like Ski-doo races add even more momentum to this project. So, roughly calculated, it’s more than $16,000 that was raised during these events. We’re going to make the official poster with the big cheque at the Centre de loisirs.”
