Pontiac Community Radio (CHIP 101.9) held its Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, December 20. The president of CHIP’s board of directors, Diane Grenier, highlighted the brilliant performance of the radio staff, particularly in the area of local information.

“Radio is the reference in the field of information in Pontiac, both on the air and on the web,” she wrote (translated). “The amount of information published by CHIP each year demonstrates its importance to the community, since radio is often the only media that reports this local information. It should also be noted that once again, the radio team was on the ground during the spring 2023 floods, reporting the situation hour by hour, from Bristol to Waltham.”

Here is a montage of the best moments of the year 2022-2023 from Pontiac community radio, which was broadcast during the AGM.

With surpluses accumulated over the past few years, CHIP 101.9’s 2022-23 financial statements presented a deficit of approximately $27,000 this year. This, however, is not problematic according to Director General François Carrier, who explained that this deficit was expected given the reduction in advertising investments from the Quebec government. He also explained that this year, the radio station decided to take advantage of surpluses from recent years to purchase new broadcasting software. He mentioned that this deficit was due to the increase in the number of people hired in the past year.

“We were lucky enough to have four students during the most recent year and for us to have young people aged between 16 and 18 working in a radio station clearly demonstrates that our sector of activity is very much alive,” Carrier wrote (translated). “We also took the opportunity to completely change our broadcasting system, but I must say thank you to the members of the board of directors who made the decision to make an investment of $450,000 in 2022, which allowed us to have a financial margin to carry out these actions.”

The board of directors of CHIP 101.9 is composed of Diane Grenier (president), David Gillespie (vice-president), Sylvain Fortin (treasurer), Patrys Brown, Annie Lacharité, and Gilles Dionne.
