Pontiac Provincial Bantam/Midget tournament returns to Shawville
Pontiac Provincial Bantam/Midget tournament returns to Shawville
The arena in Shawville was full this past weekend for the Pontiac Provincial Bantam/Midget Tournament, bringing together teams from Ontario and Quebec to compete across four different divisions.
Kerry-Lynn O’Connell, a member of the organizing committee, explained that despite some years off due to the pandemic, the tournament is in its sixth year and attracts teams from around the Ottawa Valley and beyond.
While the tournament is usually complemented by a Provincial Atom/Peewee tournament the weekend before, O’Connell said that they had to cancel this year due to a lack of interest, though they hope to bring it back next season. In addition to the action on-ice, there was a new addition of a vendor market set up in the Lions Hall above the arena.
Though the home teams didn’t manage to claim a banner for themselves, the Fort-Coulonge Comets from up the road took first place in the Midget A category as well as runners-up in the Bantam B category.
The winners were as follows:
Midget A: Fort-Coulonge Comets
Midget B: Les Rapides Chambly
Bantam A: Arnprior Packers
Bantam B: Loups Collines
