Pontiac MP Sophie Chatel discusses Chalk River decision, year ahead
Following a French-language interview with CHIP 101.9 Director François Carrier, Pontiac MP Sophie Chatel also answered some questions in English, discussing the recent decision to greenlight the NSDF project at Chalk River Laboratories and also her plans for 2024.
She said that while she is not an expert on nuclear safety, she was disappointed that she and other interested parties weren’t able to challenge Canadian Nuclear Laboratories’ planned site and offer potential alternatives.
She also discussed the price of fuel and its impact on inflation, noting that since Quebec has its own long-established cap and trade system, the federal carbon tax does not apply in the province. She added that the primary cause of the increase in the price of gas in Quebec were the oil and gas companies, who made record profits in recent years.
A video of the interview with Chatel will be available shortly on our website.
