Nurses across Quebec begin two-day strike

Nurses across Quebec begin two-day strike

8 November 2023 à 3:52 pm

A union representing 80,000 nurses, respiratory technicians and other health care workers in the province has initiated a two day strike that started this morning (November 8). Members of the Fédération interprofessionnelle de la santé (FIQ) gathered outside the Pontiac Hospital in Shawville, voicing their demands for increased salaries and better working conditions.

The union also announced that if they don’t reach an agreement with the government, they will stage another two day strike on November 23 and 24. CHIP 101.9 reached out to FIQ’s Outaouais President Karine D’Auteuil, but she did not respond back in time for publication.

This latest labour action comes on the heels of Monday’s strike by the Front Commun, a coalition of unions representing more than 400,000 public sector workers across the province, including teachers, and health care workers. The Front Commun is also planning an additional three strike days on November 21-23.
