No police checkpoints planned at the Ontario border

No police checkpoints planned at the Ontario border

12 January 2021 à 12:00 am

The Warden of the MRC Pontiac, Jane Toller, responded to citizens’ concerns during her update of the COVID-19 situation at CHIP 101.9. She mentioned that citizens had approached her to find out whether police checkpoints on the Pontiac bridges to Ontario would be put in place. Jane Toller said it was not a measure chosen for the moment by the authorities. “The roadblocks are not a chosen solution since the police services will be called upon to contribute to the respect of the curfew” affirmed Jane Toller.

The Warden also discussed about people demonstrating against government measures. Jane Toller says she wants everyone to be safe and asks everyone to follow the measures, although it is not always easy. “Some people have expressed concern about the loss of freedom with the curfew, and I understand. I want to stress that this decision was based on one thing: hospitals and healthcare workers are at a critical point. We are very fortunate to have a very low number of cases compared to other areas, but we must remain vigilant. I believe these measures will give us additional protection. The Prime Minister made this decision with input from Dr. Arruda and Public Security, there was no local consultation. The Prime Minister insisted on Wednesday that the urgency of the situation in our health sector requires a provincial approach. I hope the time will pass quickly, ”said Jane Toller.

The Warden also invited citizens to contact her directly: “If I can help answer your concerns or questions, please call me at 819-647-8198”.
