Municipality of Mansfield recognizes teen weightlifting siblings
This afternoon, the Municipality of Mansfield presented teen weightlifters Xavier and Naomie Lusignan with two plaques to acknowledge their efforts over the years, and for the example that they set for other youth in the community. They were also given cheques for $250 each and Mansfield-branded mugs.
Mayor Sandra Armstrong explained that the council wanted to recognize how proud they are of the siblings by presenting them with something that was made in the community. The wooden plaques were engraved by Mansfield resident Mathieu Laroche.
The Lusignans both said that they were proud of the recognition.
Xavier explained that he had a busy year on the horizon, as he is aiming to qualify for the Paris Olympics in 2024. He said that he would need to place well in any one of the four international qualifying events he’s taking part in this year, with the first coming up in June.
Naomie is too young to qualify for the 2024 Olympic games, but said that she would be attending several international competitions this year and looking to improve on her past finishes.
