MRC releases waste incineration business report from Deloitte
This afternoon (April 11), MRC Pontiac released the full text of the initial business case for a proposed waste incineration project in the region (available here).
The document was produced by the consulting firm Deloitte at a cost of just over $100,000, with the MRC appropriating the majority of the funds from the surplus last October. The documents are only in English and no official translation was available at the time of publication.
The main takeaways from the document’s executive summary are identifying the optimal technology for the facility (incineration), cost/benefit analysis of incineration compared to landfill, and the ratio of public and private funding for the facility.
Full access followed town hall meetings
While the MRC has been in possession of the business case for weeks, officials refused to make the document public until they were able to complete a series of five town hall meetings to present the findings to the public. The meetings were first announced at the March MRC meeting, just five days before the first town hall took place.
Following the meeting Warden Jane Toller told CHIP 101.9 that she was concerned the data might be misinterpreted and making it public could reduce the turnout at the town halls.
More details to come.
