Motorist declared dead following accident in Litchfield

A person was declared dead in hospital following a single vehicle collision in Litchfield Tuesday morning (May 9).

The accident took place around 10 a.m. along Hwy. 148 in Litchfield near the intersection with chemin Sloan. The vehicle was travelling east and left the road, striking a hydro pole. The victim was later pronounced dead in hospital.

According to Sûreté du Québec spokesperson Sgt. Marc Tessier, police believe the victim experienced some kind of medical distress prior to the accident, and their death was not caused by the collision. A coroner will be performing an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

No details have been released about the victim at this time.
