Meet Pontiac’s CAQ candidate, Corinne Canuel-Jolicoeur

Premier Legault was recently in Gatineau to announce his party’s candidate for the Pontiac riding in light of the upcoming provincial elections, which get underway officially this Sunday and conclude on October 3. Corinne Canuel-Jolicoeur, a Human Resources Director at Women and Gender Equality Canada, realtor, and mother of three boys was named the CAQ representative for the riding.

She explained that she has lived in the riding since 2007, and noted that her husband’s grandparents are from Fort-Coulonge.

She said that increasing the options for education in the region is one of her priorities for the Pontiac. She added that for rural portions of the riding, increased access to high-speed internet was something that the CAQ had delivered on, and said that if they form government again in the fall, they will focus next on increasing cellular service in rural areas.

Canuel-Jolicoeur defended one of the big pieces of legislation the CAQ brought in over the last term, Law 21, which prohibits public service workers with “coercive powers” (teachers, police officers, judges) from wearing religious garments or symbols. She pointed to Quebec’s history with the Catholic church and insisted that the law had the support of the majority of the province.
