Despite only having roughly 200 inhabitants, the mayoral race in Rapides-des-Joachims has four candidates vying for the seat. Outgoing Mayor Jim Gibson announced that he is not running again after 12 years on the job.

Lucie Rivet Paquette is one of those candidates and she talked with CHIP 101.9 about why she chose to throw her hat into the ring.

Originally from Fort-Coulonge, Paquette moved to “Swisha” as locals call it when she was 15 years old and has resided in the community for 43 years. She said that during this time she has been heavily involved in her community, from serving a term as councillor to working at the local ZEC.

She said her priorities if she’s elected would be to work collaboratively with council and to seek out provincial funds for infrastructure like roads.

The full interview with Paquette is available here.
