Local ski hill Mont Chilly opens for the season

30 January 2023 à 2:28 pm

Local ski hill Mont Chilly may be off the beaten path, but it held a successful opening day this past Sunday (January 29), bringing out around 100 skiers to their modest operation. Located at 220 chemin du Lac de la Truite in Mansfield-et-Pontefract, the family-owned hill boasts 7 runs and one t-bar lift.

Owner/operator Rick Hernberger was very pleased with the turnout they got over the weekend for what will be their 55th year in operation.

“I couldn’t have asked for better,” he said.

Hernberger noted that people come from far and wide for the unique skiing experience they offer. As their reputation has grown over the years, they have people travelling many hours to try the hill for themselves.

He explained that on bigger hills, the snow is manufactured and compacted to be quite firm, which differs significantly from the soft snow at Mont Chilly.

The hill is open on weekends from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lift tickets (cash only) are as follows:

Full day
13 and older -$35
Child 6 to 12 – $25
Half day (starting at 1:30 p.m.)
13 and older – $25
Child 6 to 12 -$20
Child under 5 ski for free
