Local schools issue directives to parents

Following the most recent Quebec government conference (December 20), like many schools in Quebec, l’école secondaire Sieur-de-Coulonge (ESSC) announced its closure today, until January 10, 2022. Students are therefore on vacation as of today, because there will be no distance education on December 21 and 22.

“As a preventive measure, we have asked the students to bring home all the materials they need to continue their learning in case the January return is done at a distance. Teachers will check what materials to bring to period 5 today to avoid oversights. For students who do not have Internet at home, the LTE terminals will be deployed in January, if we do not come back in person,” ESSC management wrote in a statement (translated).

Pontiac High School Principal Debra Stephens wrote in a social media post this afternoon that students would be starting their holidays tomorrow.

“As we have not had time to hand out all the technology required for the first online classes on January 7th, we will contact families once their technology is ready to arrange for pick up at the school on Dec. 21, 22, or January 6th.
As of the time I am writing this email, we are still planning to be back for in person classes on January 10th.
When I receive official documents from the Board, I will send them to you via email.
Thank you for your understanding and patience as we receive these announcements and have to change our plans quickly,” she wrote.
