Local fiddler fundraising for trip to Canadian Grand Masters Competition

11 August 2022 à 12:00 am

Local fiddler Justin Bertrand has been invited to the “Olympics” of Canadian fiddling and is fundraising to help with his travel expenses.

Earlier this year, Bertrand was selected to compete at the Canadian Grand Masters Fiddling Competition, which is taking place in Winnipeg at the end of this month. He explained that he had competed in the 2021 competition, which was held online, and was subsequently selected by a panel of judges to compete in-person in this year’s competition.

He explained that contestants have to play a medley of music that shows off their knowledge of different styles and time signatures.

Since this year’s competition will require some travel, Bertrand has started a GoFundMe to help pay for his airfare and accommodation, as well as a travel case for his fiddle.

Bertrand’s GoFundMe can be found here.

The full interview with Bertrand (8m35) is available here.
