Since 2018, the municipalities of Pontiac, La Pêche and Chelsea have had a dispute with the NCC regarding the amount of taxes from the Gatineau Park. The NCC challenged the tax rate and had asked to go before the Advisory Committee. The sum represents, in the case of Chelsea, $ 589,427, a shortfall that taxpayers have since had to assume. The Municipality of Chelsea said it was pleased to learn of the Advisory Committee’s recommendations regarding the amounts of tax to be paid. Chelsea Mayor Caryl Green discusses it in an interview.
