Internet accessibility in the Pontiac

29 January 2021 à 12:00 am

The member for Rouyn-Noranda-Témiscamingue and responsible for Québec solidaire in the area of regional development, Émilise Lessard-Therrien, granted an interview to CHIP 101.9 to discuss her party’s idea of creating a crown corporation in order to connect Quebecers who do not have access to high-speed Internet, as is the case in several places in the Pontiac. Québec solidaire describes their solution as a “remedy”.

“This is a first billion dollar investment. What we want is a company that can complete the network. The Internet is an essential service. This is not a new idea, it is a model that works in Saskatchewan, ”says the member for Rouyn-Noranda-Témiscamingue.

The MNA for Pontiac, André Fortin, is also faced with the reality of the lack of accessibility of the Internet network in the Pontiac, some members of his staff having the same difficulties in carrying out telework. He believes that the projects that are currently underway as well as the programs that will soon be available could bear fruit in the coming years.

The MNA for Rouyn-Noranda-Témiscamingue gave more details regarding the financial package of their proposal.
