High speed chase leads to numerous charges

11 March 2022 à 12:00 am

A high-speed chase that started in Luskville early yesterday morning resulted in numerous fines and charges for a young man.

At around 5:45 a.m. on March 10, MRC des Collines Police clocked a vehicle travelling 160 km/h in a 90 km/h zone on Hwy. 148 near the intersection of chemin de l’Hôtel de Ville in Luskville. When officers pursued the vehicle with lights and sirens, the suspect took off at a high rate of speed. Officers pursued for a short time, but stopped as it was deemed too dangerous to continue.

The suspect was driving a sports sedan and had his license plate obscured so officers couldn’t identify him. During the chase, officers said he reached speeds of more than 193 km/h, and violated all kinds of other traffic laws, such as passing on a double line and driving on the shoulder.

MRC des Collines police then requested assistance from the Sûreté du Québec detachment in Campbell’s Bay, as the suspect was heading for their jurisdiction. At around 6:25 a.m., SQ officers located the vehicle in a large parking lot outside a gravel pit and MRC des Collines officers moved in to arrest the suspect, a 22-year-old male.

He was charged with dangerous driving and fleeing police. In addition, he was hit with more than 13 highway traffic code infractions, totaling $6,390 and 41 demerit points. His vehicle and license were both immediately seized.
