Help needed for new exhibitions at the George Bryson Heritage House

31 March 2022 à 12:00 am

The installation of a museum and a permanent exhibit on one of the founders of the region, George Bryson, at the George Bryson Cultural House in Mansfield is on the verge of coming to fruition. Dominic Dufour, the project manager for the exhibit, which is planned for the next tourist season, spoke with CHIP 101.9 about the most recent developments.

“The themes have been developed for almost two years. With the Covid, it has complicated everything. We did research, we consulted experts, professional and amateur historians from the region. We wrote the texts and we printed everything. We had the modules made by Maison Ricochet, which is in Masham, and is a social reintegration company, so there is a social aspect to the project. We called a glass contractor from the area as well, Mr. Murdock, now retired, who was in Quyon. And, now, we have to populate these showcases and we are looking for new artifacts.”
– Dominic Dufour (translated)

Dufour is looking for certain objects to display in the exhibit, including the region’s first forest engineer, the beaver.

“We decided to dedicate one of the rooms of the Bryson house, one of the exhibition rooms to temporary exhibitions. So that we will be able to renew, perhaps every year, perhaps every six months, with small themes that we did not have time to explore in the large permanent exhibit. So, the first, in honor of all, we are going to dedicate the temporary exhibition to the first forest engineer, because Bryson was a lumber baron, so the first forest engineer in Canada was of course the beaver.”
– Dominic Dufour (tranlsated)

A room will also be devoted to the Félix-Gabriel-Marchand bridge and Dufour is looking for photos and other visual representations of the structure.

The full (French-language) interview with Dufour is available here.
