Group to document archaeological sites in Municipality of Pontiac

28 June 2022 à 12:00 am

A local historical group has launched a pilot project to create an inventory of archaeological sites in the Municipality of Pontiac. Known as Archéo-Pontiac, the project will be headed by the Friends of Chats Falls, a local group that provides historic walks and information sessions on the history of their corner of the municipality.

Maude-Emmanuelle Lambert, President of the Friends of Chats Falls and the technical advisor on the project, explained that it came out of an excursion that they hosted with children from Sainte-Marie School in Quyon and an archaeologist from the NCC.

She explained that they had received funding through the Cultural Development Fund, a provincial envelope administered by the MRC des Collines. The Municipality of Pontiac also contributed financial support. Lambert said that over the course of 15 months, from September 2022 to December 2023, they would be compiling an inventory of potential survey sites.

She said that anyone interested in getting involved can get in touch through their website, or through their social media.

The full interview with Lambert is available here.
