The Union des municipalités du Québec (UMQ) has announced that a group of more than 120 municipalities will achieve overall savings of around $ 600,000 for the purchase of dust suppressants during the 2021 season.

Following a public call for tenders process launched by the UMQ last January, the recommendation for awarding contracts for the supply and delivery of solid calcium chloride in flakes and in liquid solution, the products used as a dust suppressor, was approved by the Union’s board of directors on March 12th.

For the 2021 season, 125 municipalities and municipal organizations have joined this group and will thus purchase nearly 751,000 kilograms of calcium chloride in flakes and more than 13,900,000 liters of chloride in liquid solution, an increase of 3% compared to the previous year in 2019.

In addition to the overall savings achieved by the participants, the analysis of the bids received reveals in particular that six of the seven auction lots forming part of this call for tenders show a weighted average price for 2021 lower by at least 7%, compared at the 2020 weighted average price.

According to the UMQ, the group of purchases of dust suppressants offers municipalities several advantages: a guaranteed supply, fixed and guaranteed prices for the entire duration of the contract, a quality product meeting the required standard, a call from offers and contracts awarded and renewed annually, compliant quotes offering the required guarantees in terms of product and service and several other advantages.
