Fourth Front Party candidate advocates for direct democracy
A co-leader of a new federal party advocating for direct democracy is also the candidate for Pontiac. James McNair, owner of the Shawville Hotel on Hwy. 148, is a representative of the Fourth Front Party of Canada, which he co-leads along with party founder Partap Dua, federal and municipal candidate in Brampton.
McNair, a contractor and entrepreneur, said that he joined the party out of frustration over the current electoral system and said he has been trying to join forces with other smaller parties throughout Canada to create a “fourth front” or alternative to the big three parties.
The party advocates for direct democracy, a form of government where the general population votes directly on issues, like during a referendum. A form of this governance is currently practiced in Switzerland, and McNair said that it would ensure that the will of the people is carried out by the government.
He said that housing was important issue for urban and rural areas alike, and said that more investment in internet and cell infrastructure was badly needed.
McNair is one of eight confirmed candidates running in the Pontiac riding, alongside Michel Gauthier of the Conservatives, Denise Giroux of the NDP, Sohphie Chatel of the Liberals, Shaughn McArthur of the Greens, Gabrielle Desjardins of the Bloc Quebecois, David Bruce Gottfred of the People’s Party, and Geneviève Labonté-Chartrand of Free Party of Canada.
