Fort Coulonge returns to Quebec league

3 August 2021 à 12:00 am

Fort Coulonge Minor Hockey teams will compete in Quebec this coming season, after many years of playing on the other side of the river.

Minor Hockey Association President Paul Boisvert said that the board came to the decision two weeks ago at their board meeting, due to uncertainty about whether they would be able to get the approval from Hockey Quebec to play in Ontario as usual.

Though the original switch for Fort Coulonge teams to play in Ontario happened before his time on the board, Boisvert said that it had to do with the travel distances on the Quebec side. This year they will only be travelling to Maniwaki, Shawville, Masham and Gatineau (Hull/Aylmer).

“There won’t be [any] games up in Masson or Papineauville or all the way at the other end of the Outaouais,” he said.

He added that he was looking at various options to make the away games easier on parents, such as playing multiple games in a day. Another change from the Ontario league is that games will now only be played on weekends.

Registration for this coming season will be done through an online portal on the association’s website and will be open within the next couple of days.

Boisvert said that they were also on the lookout for more referees and said that anyone interested can contact him, or another member of the association. The training course is free of charge.
