Équité Outaouais welcomes the initiative but fears a staff shortage

19 October 2020 à 12:00 am

Équité Outaouais welcomed the provincial government’s announcement of a new 600-bed hospital to be built by 2030. Spokesperson Gilles Aubé said he was still worried about the staff shortage which could accelerate if nothing is done in this area.

Last week, the minister responsible for the Outaouais region, Mathieu Lacombe, said he was optimistic that the new establishment could help the region find staff. When asked about the difficulties of the Pontiac Hospital located in Shawville, which saw, among other things, the interruption of the obstetrics service. Gilles Aubé affirmed that the Barette reform of the previous government is one of the causes why the establishment faces difficulties today. He also believes that decentralization would be desirable.

It should be remembered that the Équité Outaouais group’s objective is to make the government aware of the underfunding of the Outaouais in the areas of health, education and culture. The French interview with Gilles Aubé is available here.
