Dozens of volunteers turn out for Bouffe Pontiac’s Christmas food drive

Volunteers were out in force Thursday morning (December 7) at busy intersections throughout the region for the annual “guignolée” or food drive in support of Bouffe Pontiac. Participants were stationed in L’Isle-aux-Allumettes, Campbell’s Bay and Shawville to collect donations of cash and food items from 6 to 9 a.m.

Bouffe Pontiac President Martin Riopel said that with the current economic context, the organization needs support now more than ever.

“Well, over the last few years, it sure hasn’t helped, the cost of living, inflation, salaries and so on,” he said (translated). “We have nevertheless increased our service to the population considerably in recent years. There are more and more people who need help and need support, which means that it is important to be able to help our neighbors to be able to have a close-knit, tight and solid community. It takes help, and here there are still many people who need help.”

The event is the organization’s biggest fundraiser throughout the year and typically brings in around $10,000. Donations can still be made to Bouffe Pontiac by calling them 819-648-2550 , by e-transfer at bouffepontiac@yahoo.fr or via their Paypal.
