Disagreements within the Municipality of Pontiac

14 October 2020 à 12:00 am

Protesters came to the Pontiac Municipality Council meeting on Tuesday evening (October 13). They are demanding the resignation of Mayor Joanne Labadie and some councilors. This is the case of Diane Lacasse who affirms that the municipal council lacks transparency and who also calls into question the decisions of the municipality.

Mayor Joanne Labadie replies that she was democratically elected and she in turn accuses the protesters of lacking transparency. She claims that some people operate through fake Facebook accounts.

Criminal negligence charge
Protesters go so far as to accuse Mayor Labadie of having been aware of fragile infrastructure, including the culvert which collapsed and caused the death of a citizen during the 2019 floods. “She knew it. “affirms Diane Lacasse.

No evidence exists as to whether Mayor Labadie and councilors were aware of this situation. Joanne Labadie says she is troubled by this accusation.

Diane Lacasse insists, that she believes that many citizens are demanding changes now, even if the elections will be held in a little over a year.

Joanne Labadie has no plans to give up. She says she was aware of the atmosphere between some citizens and elected officials of this municipality. This reputation of the Municipality of Pontiac has existed for many years and even seems to have resonated with the National Assembly in Quebec.

Tuesday evening several residents expressed their disagreements during the municipal meeting by honking in protest.

The full report will be available soon.
