Debbie Laporte becomes the first female mayor in the history of Fort-Coulonge

20 November 2020 à 12:00 am

The members of the municipal council of Fort-Coulonge chose Debbie Laporte to succeed Gaston Allard as mayor. Debbie Laporte therefore becomes the first woman in the history of this municipality to hold this position.

Debbie Laporte had been accumulating, for several months, tasks usually associated with the office of mayor. Among other things, since last spring, she represented the municipality of Fort-Coulonge at the table of mayors of the MRC Pontiac.

Recall that on November 11, Gaston Allard submitted his resignation after he was no longer able to perform his duties. Debbie Laporte had been the acting mayor for three years and has also been a councilor since 2005. The title of pro-mayor goes to councilor Nathalie Denault.

The municipality of Fort-Coulonge has not been used to so much change in its recent history. For example, Hector Junior Soucie was mayor from 1968 to 1999 and Raymond Durocher held this same position between 1999 and 2017. Remember that municipal elections in Quebec are scheduled for November 7, 2021.
