Community Day at the ball park to celebrate Shawville’s 150th
On Saturday (July 15), dozens of people gathered at the Shawville Recreation Association grounds to take in some ball games and enjoy a community day as part of the town’s 150th anniversary celebrations.
Hailey Murray, a volunteer with the Shawville RA, explained that the action on the diamond featured some minor ball, as well as games of women’s fastball and the Shawville Men’s Fastpitch League. For the non-players, there was a bouncy castle and other children’s activities, as well as a performance by the Riley New Band to close out the evening.
Murray added that one of the featured games was between competitive U17 teams from Ontario, the Stittsville 56ers and West Carleton Electric. Stittsville’s squad featured three Pontiac boys, Cade Kuehl and Bennett Rusenstrom of Shawville as well as Hunter Beauregard of Campbell’s Bay, and Murray said that it was nice for them to be able to have a game in front of a home crowd.
