Canada Day flea market in Shawville raises record amount

The 12th annual Canada Day flea market in Shawville was a resounding success, bringing in a record amount this year.

Organizer Chris Beimers explained that this was their first year back following the pandemic and they managed to raise more than $7,500, which will be donated to local teachers at Dr. S.E. McDowell Elementary for classroom supplies.

Beimers explained that he and his wife Melanie had started the flea market as a way to get rid of some things they had lying around the house. The event grew quickly to fill the entire arena and become a staple of Canada Day celebrations in Shawville.

This year brought out 27 vendors and Beimers said that he was thankful for all those who helped make the market a success. The breakdown of the market’s profits are as follows:

Online auction: $2,883.00
50/50 draw: $987.50
Vendor spots: $710.00
Cash donations: $450.00
Sales from donated items: $2,856.30
Grand total: $7,586.80
