Calumet gearing up for Saint-Jean-Baptiste

The community of l’Ile-du-Grand-Calumet is preparing to celebrate Quebec’s Fête nationale this Sunday June 23 at the municipal RA grounds (138 chemin des Outaouais) starting at noon.

Organizer Tyler LaSalle explained that new this year there would be a maple syrup contest among the producers on the island.

Admission is free and there will be a host of children’s activities from face painting to animal demonstrations from The Keepers wildlife organization. There will be performances by local musicians Ben Chabot, René Bertrand and the band REWD with a fireworks show capping off the evening.

LaSalle said that they are still in need of some volunteers to help at the gate.
