Budgets 2023: Municipality of Pontiac drops mill rate 11 cents
As part of our coverage of municipal budgets throughout the Pontiac region, CHIP 101.9 spoke with Municipality of Pontiac Mayor Roger Larose to discuss their plans for the year ahead. Larose said that this year they dropped their mill rate from 64 to 53 cents per $100 of evaluation due to a 33% average increase in the assessment of properties. The municipality also appropriated around $250,000 of the surplus to balance the budget.
Larose said that they had seen an increase in their shares to the MRC des Collines (an jump of nearly $80,000), which he attributed to a variety of things, including police services.
He said that they had also seen significant increases in the cost of contracts for snow removal, among other things. He noted that they would be looking at purchasing more vehicles and looking at their options for taking over some snow removal areas, as well as garbage collection in the municipality, in order to save on these types of costs.
