Bouffe Pontiac sees large increase in usage
With the cost of living rapidly increasing across the country, local food bank Bouffe Pontiac has seen a large increase in the number of clients that it serves. Director Kim Laroche estimated that they’ve seen more than 100 new users, on top of the 500-600 that they typically serve each year. She said that while inflation has meant an increased cost for the food bank itself, they have accounted for that with increased funding from their backers.
Bouffe will also be holding their annual Guignolée, or food drive next week on Thursday December 1. Volunteers will be stationed at high traffic areas throughout the region to collect both money and non-perishable food items during the morning rush hour between 6 and 9 a.m. They will be at the lights in Shawville at the intersection of Main and Centre Streets, at the intersection of Hwy. 148 and Rte. 301 as well as on l’Ilse aux Allumettes at the intersection of Hwy. 148 and chemin Pembroke.
Laroche explained that it is their biggest fundraiser every year, typically bringing in several thousand dollars and hundreds of kilograms of food items.
