27 July 2021 à 12:00 am

Quebec’s police watchdog, the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI), is investigating a police chase on Hwy. 148 in the Municipality of Pontiac that ended with a teenager hospitalized in serious condition.

According to the initial facts provided to the BEI by the MRC des Collines police, at around 4:50 p.m. on July 25, a vehicle was clocked speeding on the highway by police. The officer pulled a u-turn and attempted to intercept it. During the ensuing chase, the 18 year-old driver of the vehicle lost control and crashed. He was taken to hospital where his condition was deemed serious.

Five BEI investigators have been assigned to the case, and will be assisted by an accident reconstruction specialist from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) working under their supervision. The BEI is mandated to investigate any time when a police intervention or detention in the province results in serious injury or death.

The BEI has not released any further information.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is encouraged to contact investigators via www.bei.gouv.qc.ca
