Arrest in Mansfield on Saturday evening for speeding and threatening police officers

Around 9:30 p.m. yesterday (April 15), officers from the Sûreté du Québec came across an SUV with a burnt-out headlight travelling southbound on chemin Thomas-Lefebvre in Mansfield- et-Pontefract. The police captured the SUV at 106 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. The vehicle came to a stop in a private driveway on the same road and the driver was quickly located in a wooded area behind the residence.

The police, having reasonable grounds to believe that he was driving while impaired, arrested him and the man was transported to the station and then to the hospital for blood samples to be taken. According to the SQ, during the transport, the suspect insulted and threatened the police with bodily harm. In addition, the man allegedly tried to flee by rushing towards one of them when he got out of the vehicle.

Because he drove dangerously and acted aggressively towards the officers, going so far as to attempt to escape, he remains in custody until his scheduled video appearance today (Sunday April 16) around 2 p.m. The identity of the man has not yet been disclosed.
