At the MRC budget meeting on November 23, Warden Jane Toller invited the leaders of local animal welfare group Animal Aide Pontiac to discuss the work they do in the community. The group spays and neuters hundreds of stray cats in the area every year, as well as offering group discounts for the same services for people’s pets.

Katherine Morris told council that last year they brought more than 600 cats in for surgery.

She listed off the expenses that the volunteer group incurs to provide these services, which often total hundreds of dollars per week. She said that they regularly make trips to Brockville or Montreal to have dozens of cats fixed at a discount.

Toller ended up presenting Morris with a cheque from the MRC for $10,000 to help further their cause.
