André Fortin discusses announcement of new Gatineau Hospital location
Pontiac MNA André Fortin came by CHIP 101.9’s studio on June 20 to discuss the big regional news of the day, which was the announcement of a new location for the proposed hospital in Gatineau. The federal government will be transferring the Asticou Centre, located on Boulevard de la Cité-des-Jeunes to the province for the project. The new site sits just northwest of the Hull Hospital.
The new hospital was key pillar in the CAQ government’s 2018 election promises for the Outaouais region, however the decision of where to build it has dragged on for years. Fortin gave a breakdown of the project’s timeline leading up to this week’s announcement.
Fortin said that while upgrades to the region’s health care infrastructure are welcome and needed, the government needs to address the more immediate issue of short-staffing in the region, which has led to a decline in services for Outaouais residents.
