A prize awarded to 37 community radio stations

10 December 2020 à 12:00 am

Yesterday (December 9) was the Gala of the Association des radios communautaire du Québec (ARCQ) on Zoom. During the event, prizes were awarded and among these prizes, we note the award of the Résonance prize, which highlights the contribution of one of its members to Quebec and community radio. ARCQ President Tanya Beaumont presented the award this year to all 37 ARCQ member stations.

Tanya Beaumont mentioned that at the start of the pandemic, many were wondering how to survive, but that all of the members accomplished their mission of informing and entertaining their community.

Founded in 1979, the Association des radiodiffuseurs communautaires du Québec brings together 37 stations located in 16 regions of Quebec. That’s an annual turnover of over $ 12 million, nearly a million listeners, 230 jobs, 80% self-funded organizations, 2,000 people involved in volunteer work and nearly 20,000 members. In addition, each year more than 5,000 interviews are carried out with stakeholders from the cultural world. To make the news local and regional, 50 paid journalists work there and over 1,500 weekly newscasts and 100 hours of public affairs programming are broadcast.
