A meeting between Équité Outaouais and Minister Mathieu Lacombe regarding the future hospital in the region

28 June 2022 à 12:00 am

The citizen coalition Équité Outaouais revealed that it had met with the minister responsible for the Outaouais region, Mathieu Lacombe, for “ a frank and direct dialogue ” concerning the future Gatineau hospital (CHAU). “Today, the message sent to the government is clear. The Outaouais absolutely needs the CHAU, a major project for the 21st century, with a vast health campus, a pavilion for teaching health sciences, a hospital serving the Outaouais region ” , said Equity Outaouais. This new hospital will have a regional, university, health science teaching, research, specialized and local care mission. “This new hospital must serve the population of the entire region. All the poor and homeless throughout the Outaouais deserve to be treated well, regardless of their location. Mrs. Nycole Turmel, president of Gîte Ami, who affirms that care is for everyone, on the Outaouais territory.

“Staff training and good working conditions are essential for the success of the future CHAU. Mr. Alfonso Ibarra Ramirez, President of the Central Council of National Unions of the Outaouais – CSN, insists on the construction of a health sciences pavilion adjoining the new CHAU. He stresses the importance of doing internships directly in the hospital and of hiring our future professionals when they graduate.

“If we rely on the experience of the CHUM, a tower in the city center has major consequences on the quality of care in the emergency room. Dr. Marie-Hélène Lasalle-Folot, head of the CISSSO emergency department, met and visited the CHUM and a tower imposes serious constraints on the functioning and quality of care for the public.

“ A health campus, with vast land, is essential to the success of the future CHAU ”, said Dr. Gilles Aubé, family doctor and former Parti Québécois candidate. “ The site of the future CHAU with its health campus, downtown? It is not an absolute. First and foremost, we want a large piece of land, wherever it is, which will allow the development of the project as a whole,” concluded Dr. Gilles Aubé. (Translated)
