The ÎleduGrandCalumet group is soon organizing the sixth edition of their fishing tournament and invites the population of the Pontiac to come and participate. The president of the ÎleduGrandCalumet Group, Guylaine Lasalle, gives more details on this fundraising activity.
Guylaine Lasalle: “This year its 6th edition will take place on Saturday, August 10th at the Île-du-Grand-Calumet. It starts at 7 and ends at 4 P.M. with the prizegiving ceremony for the winners. It is a family activity. There are 3 categories: children 012 years old, teenagers 1317 years old and adults 18 years old and over. For registration, the child category from 012 years old the cost is $7.50, $12.50 for teenagers and $17.50 for adults. The winning fish will be the heaviest in all categories. All kinds of fish is accepted except the bearded because the bearded gets fished with dead line fishing and we ask for alive fish so this is one of the reasons.”
Several activities will take place on dry land during the tournament such as a BBQ, a 50/50 draw and a game where you have to guess the number of candies in a bottle. Those in attendance will also have the chance to win one of the many door prizes that will be drawn during the trophy ceremony at the end of the tournament.
The objective of this fundraising activity is to raise funds to continue the work of the ÎleduGrandCalumet group in its task of restoring the old cemetery of ÎleduGrandCalumet. Ms. Lasalle explains
Guylaine Lasalle: “We have reached phase 3 of the lets honor our roots project. The old cemetery of ÎleduGrandCalumet dates from the 1800s. Since 2018, we have been working on this project and we have collected nearly 1,800 names of people who have been buried. We have reached the stage of writing names on panels so that people can come and see their ancestors.”
