Senior Comets downed 6-4 in home opener
The Shawville arena was packed on Sunday evening (October 27) as the Pontiac Senior Comets took to the ice against the South Stormont Mustangs in their home opener. Despite a last-minute change in venues, the hometown crowd of more than 500 supporters was loud and energetic. The opening ceremonies featured Pontiac singer Michaela Cahill leading the national anthem.
The Comets went up two goals in the first period, and despite Stormont battling back in the second, they stayed in the lead until the final frame. However, the Mustangs came out swinging in the third, putting the nails in the coffin with two goals in the last six minutes, for a final score of 6-4.
Comets coach Luc Danis said that they had some tough breaks, but put up a solid fight against one of the top teams in the league.
Danis said he was proud of how the team has progressed with only a limited time playing together.
He added that the squad had some adjustments to make before their next game, which will be at the Shawville arena on Saturday November 2 at 8 p.m. against the Glengarry Pipers.
