Police recover body of missing kayaker
This afternoon, Ontario Provincial Police confirmed the body they recovered over the weekend was that of the 30 year-old female kayaker who went missing in the Ottawa River near l’Isle-aux-Allumettes last week.
Police initially began searching the river after a tandem kayak was reported to have capsized early in the morning on September 18 near the interprovincial bridge connecting Ontario and the island. A 34 year-old man was rescued that morning but a 30 year-old woman remained missing.
On Saturday (September 21), police announced that they had recovered a body near where the woman had last been observed, but didn’t confirm it was the missing paddler until this afternoon. The woman’s identity has not been made public.
